More Starbursts Than You Can Shake a Stick At

How Does Your Starburst Grow?

With alt and shift
and shapes adrift
and points all in a row

This actually uses the same technique as the one found in my Geometric Shapes Tutorial.

Start by opening up the Nature Collection in shapes.

Starburst

Now select good ol’ Flower #5.

Starburst

Drag it out on your canvas. Hold down Shift to keep your flower proportionate!

Starburst

Now to apply the green thumb – grab the Direct Selection Tool.

Starburst

Drag a square around the INSIDE points. If you missed one, hold down shift and select it, you need to grab em all!

Starburst

Great, now hit up Ctrl-T to transform your points. Grab the corned handle and bring the points into the middle while holding down Shift + Alt.

Starburst

Grit your teeth and commit to the relationship.

Starburst

Now we have to make the starburst larger. Grab the move tool. Make sure Show Bounding Box is selected.

Starburst

Select your starburst and grab a corner point. Holding down Shift + Alt again, drag out that flower!

Starburst

And you’re done! Here I’ve added a slight radial gradient, a background, and a hyperkinetic lagamorph.

Starburst

I give credit to SlickTutorials for actually being the first to stumble across this method before I figured it out – his tutorial has a few extra steps on how to transform this into a starburst. I highly recommend checking it out!

  5. Hi Vale – did you make sure to load up the Shapes folder? (check above). The target shape should look like a circle, not like a starburst at all. If you still need help finding it, feel free to take a screenshot of your work area and I’ll see what I can do!

  6. Vale & Minty Ferret – The Registration shape is under Symbols in the Custom Shapes. I found it by accident. Hope this helps! Btw…Great tutorial!

  15. How did you get the dark blue middle. I can not get it to work.

  16. I filled in a dark blue background, then added a radial gradient to the starburst with one of the colours being the same hue as the dark blue background.

  17. Thanks you very much. It is cool and wonderful !

  18. I like your sense of humor in your tutorial.
