A free package of RSS icons in all colours of the rainbow! Made using the RSS Icon tutorial.

Need some spiffy Free RSS Icons for your blog? Look no further!

I’ve put together a great package of scalable RSS icons for you to use (tutorial on how to make them is here!). Included are PSD files for both large, medium, and small sizes. I’ve also included PNGs of each colour and size if you want to use them right away! You can also create your own colours by adjusting the style of the ‘background’ layer.

These RSS icons are made purely as shapes in Photoshop, so using the PSD file you can scale them easily. I recommend duplicating the folder containing the colour you want onto a new canvas, then scale the entire folder.

So without more blabbering from me, here is the link to the download package. Enjoy!

Here's a simple eBook Cover action for Photoshop - simply download it, add your own graphics, and create an eBook automagically!

I sat down the other day, and designed this Ebook / eCover Creator Action for Photoshop. Actions are great, since they let you automate processes in Photoshop. In this case, you can create a template, design your eBook cover, then with just one click, you can convert that flat cover into a 3d looking eBook! If you would like to know more about how actions work or how to create your own, make sure to check out my previous post.

This action will allow you to turn this:

Into this, with just one click!

This eBook Action is entirely FREE to download, so head on after the break for a quick tutorial on how to load up actions and use them in Photoshop, as well as the download link.

First, download the Ebook Creator Action:

>> Download the Ebook Creator Action Here <<
Downloaded 15094 times

Unzip that file.
Open up the Actions palette in Photoshop. You should find something that looks like this:

Select the button in the top right corner of that window. A dropdown menu should appear. Select ‘Load Actions’.

Now just find the place on your computer where Ebook Creator.atn is currently residing, and select that file.

It should now appear in your actions palette. Extend the Ebook Creator folder, and select ‘Create Template’. Hit the play button in the lower edge of the window.

This should create the following template.

I’ve set it so the template is pretty large, which should cover most of the uses your should have for it. However, if you want it smaller at this step, just go to Image – Image Size – and change the RESOLUTION from 72 to something smaller. Don’t try to change the actual size of the document, it’ll mess up the generator action!

Now you’re ready to design your eCover! Just follow the simple instructions on the template – the front cover will go to the right of the guideline, the side cover to the left. You can either cover up or delete the text that is there. Here is an example of what a cover can look like:

Now comes the magic! Go back to your Actions Palette, and this time select Convert to Ebook. Press Play again, sit back, relax….

And watch as your brand new eBook pops out!

All you need to do now is select the folder that says Delete This, and, well, get rid of the sucker.

Delete/move your guideline, and there is your eBook, in its pure and unadulterated form.

From here you’ll have to make the changes you want manually. You can easily delete the Reflections Folder, change the Background layer to something else (maybe a sleek black or sunny yellow?). You can get rid of the highlights, or merge the layers and plop the book into another graphic. It’s up to you!

It was pretty exciting making this action and I’m currently looking for other useful actions that people would want. Do you have any suggestions? Ideas? Leave a comment! Also, I’m excited to see what kind of eBooks people are coming up with. Do you have a design you’d like to share? Please, post a comment – if I include your photo on the site I’ll credit you with your name and link.

Don’t forget to DIGG if you like this post!

Automate Photoshop! Learn how to create a reflection action that will allow you to apply a reflection to images in a snap! You can download a pre-made action as well.

You already know how to make great reflections. In fact, you love them! However a project has recently come up where you need to make a lot of reflections – and fast. Sure, you could go and do each image/text by hand, tediously duplicating, flipping, and adjusting layers. However, Photoshop provides a way to automate that process! Download the Reflection Action below, load it up in Photoshop’s Actions window, then sit back and watch those pesky images reflect themselves.

This Action works well with smaller images (and can be used to make wicked thumbnails!). Make sure that you’re only working with one layer (flatten everything before beginning). If you want to know how to make one of these nifty things, or customate the action to work well with larger images, be sure to check out the tutorial!

A very quick tutorial on how to make thick diagonal lines and stripes. FREE patterns are available to download!

Here I will give you a very quick tutorial on how to make diagonal lines / stripes in Photoshop. However, if you’d rather have them ready-made, scroll to the bottom of the post to download my Diagonal Line Patterns for Photoshop.

First, open a square canvas made of odd-numbered pixels. I used 15×15px in my first few patterns and then expanded it to a 25×25px canvas.

Now grab the pencil tool and set it to 1px.

Now you simply have to make the shapes shown below to achieve the desired effect. Every single one of these are included in the Diagonal Line Patterns package at the bottom of the post for you to download.

A 1-px line

A 3-px line. Notice the added dots at each corner to make the pattern seamless.

A 5-px line. As the width increases, you need to compensate for that by filling in the corners in a diagonal fashion as well.

A 7-px line.

A 7-px line, this time on a 25×25px canvas.

A 9-px line.

A 11-px line.

A 13-px line.

And so on and so forth. Then simply select Edit > Define Brush Pattern to create your Thick Diagonal Stripes pattern!

The patterns you can download below are the same as those shown above, and will look something like this once you’ve loaded it up into Photoshop:

And without further ado, here is the link to download the package. If you make anything with this pattern that you wouldn’t mind sharing, please contact me or post a comment and I’ll gladly showcase your work here!
